How is the scientific “kitchen” arranged? The monograph is devoted to this issue. On the example of the situation in the economic and several other social sciences, the organization of scientific transactions in North America and Russia is considered and compared. It is shown how scientists interact with colleagues and students in close proximity and with “generalized others”, that is, with readers of their work. Particular attention is paid to conflicts of interests and their impact on the process of reviewing and the productivity of scientific labor.
