The book presents the works of academician V. G. Afanasyev, dedicated to the scientific management of society. In the “Actual Problems of Scientific Management of Society”, the author considers the socialist society as a complex differentiated integral system, reveals the basic principle of organizing a socialist society and managing it - democratic centralism. The ways to improve management are also investigated, including planning, stimulating, improving the organizational management structure, the use of automation, and increasing the role of labor collectives. In the work “Man in Management Systems”, for which in 1976 V. G. Afanasyev was awarded the first degree diploma for the best work of popular science literature, the issues of the role of man in control in the conditions of automation of all processes in the era of the scientific and technical revolution are considered and its purposeful impact both on production and other spheres of society. The “software-target planning and management” considers the need and possibilities of a systemic software-targeted approach to planning and management. The essence, types and stages of the development of programs, ways to implement them are described in detail. The experience of program-targeted planning and management in the USSR and other socialist countries is shown.
