The monograph for the first time investigates American public opinion as the most important factor in social and political life during the breeding of the civil war (1861-1865) The study of the struggle of opinions both in the south and in the north, considering the process of forming two sociocultural models give it particular value.
Against the backdrop of a wide canvas of socio-economic and political history, the monograph is an analysis of the state and development of public opinion in the United States, consistently from the compromise of 1850, a small civil war in Kansas, the uprising of John Brown, the emergence of a “inevitable conflict”, and the release From the Union of the Southern States to the formation of the Southern Confederation and the outbreak of the Civil War. A fierce struggle is revealed, which accompanied the adoption of a compromise of Kansas-Nobraska and the decision of the Supreme Court in the case of the Drede Scott 1857, which abstracted the famous Missurian compromise. Particular attention is paid to the formation of the Republican Party and the presidential election of 1856 and 1860.
It shows how to incite hostility between the inhabitants of the same country as propaganda and manipulative techniques were used. The whole set of facts gleaned from the primary sources, and especially materials about these manipulations make it possible to look behind the scenes of politics, which led to the unleashing of the civil war in the United States, more deeply understanding its reasons.
