The rhetoric of the right populists enters the center of the political arena, and some parties reach the very top of the electoral staircase. But can we explain why this is happening right now? Ruth Vodak traces the trajectory of the movement of such parties, from the “backbone” of the political landscape to the center, using the discursive-historical approach. It is focused on discursive design of national identities and categories of "others", which exclude or close access to resources. She managed to find the widest range of techniques for argumentation and discursive strategies that mask the true face of such politicians and attract more and more voters to them. This is the strategy of calculated ambiguity, and the strategy of the change of roles victim/criminal, and various mistakes of generalization, replacement of the thesis, and the strategies for creating "goats of scape and constructing fear. An abundance of examples from the life of modern politicians indicates the validity and relevance of the author’s views.
