This volume of the series “Peoples and Culture” is dedicated to Kazakhs - one of the largest peoples of Eurasia, the main population of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Preserving the characteristic features and achievements of nomads-steppasses of antiquity and the Middle Ages, Kazakh culture formed its original appearance. The monograph shows the determining effect of nomadic cattle breeding as the main method of production on the tradition of life support, the socio -normative and humanitarian culture of Kazakhs. A special place is allocated to political agencies and the history of statehood, including such important stages as the formation of the Kazakh Khanate, the stay of Kazakhstan as part of the Russian Empire, the creation of the Kazakh SSR consisting of the Soviet Union and the proclamation of an independent Republic of Kazakhstan in 1991. Numerous Kazakh communities live today in Russia, China , Mongolia, Uzbekistan and other countries. The book gives a characteristic of the Kazakh diaspora in its interaction with the main ethnic array. Ethnodemographic, social, linguistic, religious processes of recent decades, as well as the interaction of ethnocultural communities in modern Kazakhstan, have been reflected in a collective monograph. The publication has an interdisciplinary character. It was the result of cooperation between scientists of Russia and Kazakhstan. Tom “Kazakhs” introduces unique expeditionary, archival and museum materials into scientific circulation.
