Federal ideas in the political theory of Russian populism

The monograph analyzes a set of ideas about federal relations in the ideology of Russian populism on the example of the views of A.I. Herzen, M.A. Bakunin, P.L. Lavrova and P.N. Tkachev. The author considers the origins of these ideas in the context of the development of the Russian liberation movement, shows the organicism of federal ideas to its liberal and revolutionary democratic directions, explains conceptual interweaving, discrepancies and inconsistencies of views on the federation of these thinkers. The comprehensive analysis of these issues undertaken by the researcher significantly enriches the historiography of the theme of Russian populism, reveals those of its aspects that still remained insufficiently studied. In addition, the cross -analysis of the approaches of four prominent figures of populism to federalist issues, presented in the book, allows you to clarify the evaluation of both these personalities themselves and their contribution to the development of post -reform social thought. The monograph is designed both for professional historians and social scholars, and in general for a wide range of Russia interested in the pre -revolutionary past
