The book is dedicated to the modern culture of the Dogons, perhaps the most famous people of tropical Africa.
Academically accurate descriptions of the culture and ethnography of the Dogs and other peoples are supplemented by funny household sketches of Mali life and morals.
Much attention in the book is paid to the descriptions of life in those villages where the author visited, their culture and religion, as well as monuments of fine art and architecture.
The book critically analyzes the stereotypes of the perception of the culture of the Dogon, generated mainly by the French ethnological school, and also shows the causes of such stereotypes.
The book was written in the genre of travel notes: the author describes the road from the capital of the Republic of Mali Bamako to the Bandiagar Highlands, with detailed excursions into the history of every city and people, through the territory of which the paths of the Dogons runs, and in connection with the history and culture of themselves Dogonov. The book is richly illustrated by the original photos (4 cards, 106 black and white and 24 color illustrations), has a chronological table and an index of geographical and ethnic names, clan names and own names, as well as a list of used literature.
