The monograph is devoted to the problem of intellectual sources of English penitentiary reform of the late XVIII century. The authors were first analyzed and introduced into scientific circulation by the works of publicists, producers, lawyers and parliamentarians, philanthropists-practitioners, whose ideas were fundamental to the formation of the theoretical and methodological foundations of the modern British criminal-executive practice, which has become a classical model of implementation for European national penitentiary systems.
