Journalist and human rights activist Eva Merkacheva visited all seven Russian colonies for life -sentenced life - where no one wants to be of their own free will. She interviewed the colonies and the prisoners and told in her book honestly and without embellishment everything she managed to see and find out. The author described in detail the daily routine in the colonies, the life of prisoners, themselves and how the prison, awareness of the severity of the crimes committed and the fact that they cannot be released until the end of their lives change.
Eva Merkacheva talked with killers, maniacs, pedophiles and other criminals who committed acts so terrible that society chose to forever exclude them from its life. She tried to understand that they pushed them, once completely normal, to crimes, which made monsters in human form, are they repenting or, conversely, regret that they could not continue to create evil?
The book uses unique documentary photographs from the author’s personal archive
