The book of Leo Lurie is devoted to the historical sociology of the Narodniks - the first, expressed metaphorically, a small group of “revolutionaries in the law” in Russia: life in an illegal situation, communication, almost exclusively, with comrades in the fight, institutional equality, sacrifice, refusal to cooperate with the investigation, use Benes of the defendants as stands for exposure to power.
Analysis of the socio-demographic structure of the revolutionaries of 1871-1886 shows that these imperatives were formed by a small peer group of students and careers born around 1850 and the experience of the Bakuninsky circles, comprehension of Nechaev’s business, "walking into the people", prison , "large processes", leaving underground. With the arrests of the leadership of the people"s will ", this local culture disappeared.
In the book, this crisis of behavioral norms was analyzed on the example of Yakov Stefanovich, Sergey Degayev, Lev Tikhomirov (according to previously unknown archival documents identified by the author)
