The book is devoted to the study of the processes of formation and development in the XIX-XX centuries of the Azerbaijani nation, the most numerous in the South Caucasus. The ancestors of modern Azerbaijanis, who created an ancient and original culture, have been sowing the eastern part of the South Caucasus from time immemorial. Based on this, the attention of readers also presents a brief historical excursion, which traces the main stages of the formation of the Azerbaijani ethnic group. But the main goal of the study is still the comprehension and coverage of radical socio-economic and cultural changes at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries that led to the formation of the Azerbaijani nation. Based on the main provisions of the constructivist theory, which rejects the abstracts of the spontaneous and predetermined nature of the Nazictrization process, the author, on the example of specific facts, shows that the modern Azerbaijani nation is the result of not only objective historical processes, but also the purposeful activity of representatives of the Azerbaijan intelligentsia. The book also considers the process of evolution of the national identity of Azerbaijanis over the past two centuries.
