American historian James Hinenzen specializes in Soviet history of the Stalin era, paying a lot of attention to the shadow economy of the period. He devoted his book to the topic of corruption, in particular bribery, in the USSR during the late Stalinism. The author on a rather extensive archival material explores the heyday of corruption and attempts by the state to fight it in the conditions of the post -war restoration of the country, reconstructs the customs and rituals associated with the proposal and receiving bribes, pays special attention to bribery in the courts of the court and the prosecutor"s office, and describes some major affairs in detail, for example The case of corruption in the highest courts of a number of republics and regions of the USSR in 1947–1952.
