The book in popular science form sets out modern views on the origin of the Alanian ethnic group in the North Caucasus and the problem of the "Alanian heritage". The data available today by linguistics, anthropology and archeology related to the North Caucasian Alan are considered. Separate sections are devoted to the catacomb ceremony of burial, which is the main marker of the Alanian archaeological culture in the North Caucasus and the Middle Don, and the process of the appearance of carriers of this culture in the Kislovodsk basin is also examined in detail.
