The book of Professor Slavicism of the University of Zurich Sylvia Zasse is devoted to one of the key Russian sociocultural phenomena - confession - as it is represented in the best examples of Russian literature of the XIX -XXI centuries. Confession and recognition are considered by the author in mutual circulation to the contexts of religious and legal practices, but are not reduced to them. Zasse analyzes repentant and administrative practices against the background of religious prohibitions and social taboos, in the context of social, artistic, cognitive and mediation structures. Based on the material of the comparative religious studies of various Christian denominations, Net -trivial discrepancies in the status of recognition in Russian and Western literature are discovered. The study legitimizes new objects of study, which, due to the current political persecution and ideological prohibitions, are in the marginal zone of modern Russian culture.
The book of S. Zasse is addressed to a wide circle of readers interested in Russian literature, but will also serve as a reliable guideline when immersed in the context of modern Western studies of Russian culture
