Henry Longfellow (1807-1882), the most popular American poet of the 19th century, is known in Russia primarily as the author of 'The Song of Hiawatha', recreating America's national epic based on Native American legends.
The collection presented publishes another epic poem by Longfellow, 'Evangeline' - about the cruel exile of the Acadian people, separating the groom from the bride, and the girl's wandering across America in search of her beloved. In addition to this work, the collection includes poems from all of Longfellow's poetic collections, giving an overview of his work.
The compiler and author of the foreword and comments is the well-known translator and researcher of English-language poetry G. M. Kruzhkov.
