This publication tells the story of the life and work of the talented members of the noble family of Zhemchuzhnikovs, who made a significant contribution to the treasury of Russian literature. The Zhemchuzhnikov brothers - Alexey, Lev, Alexander, Vladimir, and Nikolai, who will be discussed - are largely forgotten in our fast-paced and fateful time, although their names were well-known as authors of numerous poems, dramatic and satirical works of a civil nature. Together with their second cousin, the poet and playwright Count Tolstoy, they created the enduring image of Kozma Prutkov. The Zhemchuzhnikovs are presented to us in close and lively interaction with their contemporaries - the luminaries of Russian culture of the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries: philosopher V.S. Solovyov, poets A.K. Tolstoy, A.A. Fet, I.A. Bunin, and others. The picturesque backdrop to the narrative is provided by the Russian provincial estates of Krasny Rog and Pochep near Bryansk, Pogoreltsy in the Chernigov region of Ukraine, Pavlovka in the Oryol region, and Pustynka near St. Petersburg, where our heroes were truly happy. The book also touches on the theme of the personal lives of the close relatives of the Zhemchuzhnikov brothers: the Razumovsky, Tolstoy, Perovsky Counts, and other venerable Russian figures.
