Gennady Aygi (1934–2006), a world-renowned poet and translator who wrote in Chuvash and Russian languages, was a laureate of national and international awards, including the French Academy (1972), A. Beliy (1987), F. Petrarch (1993), the 'Golden Wreath' of Struga Poetry Evenings (Macedonia, 1993), B. Pasternak (2000, first laureate), among others. He was also a Commander of the Order of Arts and Literature (1998) and a People's Poet of the Chuvash Republic (1994). Aygi was nominated multiple times for the Nobel Prize. This current annotated edition of selected works includes poems from 1954 to 2003, the books 'Bow — Singing' (Variations on the themes of folk songs of the Volga region), 'The World of Sylvia', and articles about the iconic figures of the Russian avant-garde: V. Mayakovsky, V. Khlebnikov, A. Kruchenykh, P. Filonov, E. Guro, and others. The book is being published in honor of the 90th anniversary of G. N. Aygi's birth.
