Inessa Pleskachevskaya is a writer, journalist, and screenwriter. She has been writing about ballet for over 30 years. During this time, 15 books by the author were published in Belarus, Russia, China, and Lithuania.
"Plisetskaya. The Element Named Maya" is a portrait of Maya Mikhailovna Plisetskaya against the backdrop of an era, or rather, different eras, as she had the opportunity to live in several of them. It would seem that so much has been written, filmed, and told about Plisetskaya, but the author managed to make a number of discoveries. You will learn about the passions, hopes, and doubts that raged in the soul of the great ballerina: her relationships with her husband Rodion Shchedrin, Yuri Grigorovich, and Galina Ulanova. The book features the voices of those who worked, communicated, and befriended the ballerina: Rodion Shchedrin, Valentin Elizariev, Boris Akimov, Yuri Vladimirov, Mikhail Lavrovsky, Ludmila Semenyaka, Natalia Kasatkina, Boris Messerer, Viktor Barykin, Valery Lagunov, and others. In addition to exclusive interviews conducted by the author personally, work was also carried out in the archive of the Russian State Library of Arts, the library of the Bakhrushin Theater Museum, which houses Maya Mikhailovna's notebooks, and in the Bolshoi Theater Museum. These materials and publications are a snapshot of the time in which Plisetskaya lived and created, and thanks to these invaluable documents, we have the opportunity to see how not only the language of her interviews and articles written by her changed, but also her views.
