Zakhar Prilepin is a writer, journalist, and TV presenter. From 1995 to 1999, he served in the OMON (Special Purpose Police Unit). In 1996 and 1999, as a commander of a unit within OMON, he took part in counter-terrorist operations in Chechnya and Dagestan. From 2014 to 2015, he worked as a military correspondent in the Donbass region. Since December 2015, he has been an advisor to the head of the Donetsk People's Republic, Alexander Zakharchenko. Since October 2016, he has been the deputy commander of the reconnaissance and assault battalion of the army of the Donetsk People's Republic, holding the rank of Major. He is the author of the novel "Pathologies" (2005) about the Chechen war, several military stories collected in the books "Sin" (2007) and "Seven Lives" (2016), journalistic works on the civil conflict in Ukraine "Not Someone Else's Turmoil" (2015) and "Everything That Should Be Resolved: A Chronicle of the Ongoing War" (2016).
