Picturesque depiction of the customs, traditions, and amusements of the Russians

The album "Picturesque image of the morals ..." The English artist J.O. Atkinson is an important fine source in which Russian everyday life is recreated in all its originality with its life, cares, entertainments, means of movement, folk clothes and rites. It can be attributed to the genre of artistic report on the country, in the album the type of lecture-trial sketches in the form of scenes from folk life prevail. In a hundred engravings published in the publication, the artist’s interest in elements of everyday life and economy, social and class differences in society, interiors and landscape of Russia is clearly manifested.
Illustrations are accompanied by explanatory texts in Russian and English, compiled by D. Walker, in which the features of understanding the realities of the realities of Russian life, customs, classes and holidays are reflected.
