The main properties of electromagnetic waves, laws of propagation, reflection and refraction, laws of crystal optics, electronic theory of dispersion, physical effects used for transforming optical radiation, laws of electromagnetic wave propagation in waveguides, basic components of integrated optics devices, as well as the basic principles of near-field optics and microscopy are considered. Questions of magneto-optics are discussed using tensor analysis, and the principles of light propagation through waveguiding media are presented using the results of the theory of coupled modes, as outlined in the appendix of the manual. Specific examples of practical implementation of the discussed laws and effects are provided.
The book is recommended as a textbook for students of universities studying in the fields of 'Electronics and Nanoelectronics', 'Nanotechnology and Microsystems Engineering', 'Photonics and Optoinformatics'.
