This edition is a manual dedicated to light microscopes for medical and biological research. Recently, not only have there been changes in the nomenclature of light microscopes, but also new directions have emerged. The manual provides brief information on modern light microscopes and their design, research methods, microscope adjustment, and maintenance rules. It includes terms and definitions, as well as necessary formulas. The materials used in this book are the results of experimental work conducted on modern equipment (based on LLC "KF Mikroskop Plus", firms "Sheldi"/Motic, "Carl Zeiss"/Zeiss (Moscow), Olympus (Moscow), "Biovitrum"/Nikon, MO "Department of Medical Equipment"/Micros). The results of testing modern microscopes from different companies and opinions of specialists in the medical-biological field obtained during microscopy training are presented. An analysis of the nomenclature of leading global manufacturers in recent years was conducted using catalogs and data from the companies' websites, and the results of virtual training experiments by Zeiss, Olympus, and Nikon are provided. Participants in courses at MAPO St. Petersburg, ITMO University, St. Petersburg State University, and students were involved in microscope setup and operation demonstrations. Service work and demonstrative experiments with image analysis systems and cameras were conducted by employees of LLC "KF Mikroskop Plus". This manual is intended for specialists in microscopy, teachers, and university students.
