Readers are proposed to the first systematic study on the history of the decision by the outstanding domestic scientist V.I. Vernadsky (1863-1945) the problems of the nature of time and space. The study is based on both published and not published during the life of a scientific works (due to the prevailing special social conditions, they all began to be printed only in 1965-1980) The book uses numerous and diverse sources: unpublished notes of Vernadsky of different years, his diaries and letters, which reflected the history of the solution to the problem of nature of time. The wide historical background of the scientific revolution of the beginning of the twentieth century is shown, in particular the creation of new physics and the theory of relativity, in close connection with which V.I. Vernadsky solved the problem of time. Cruel ideological oppression and censorship, in which the scientist had to work, was greatly complicated and delayed the spread of his ideas.
The book is intended for a wide range of scientists of the natural-scientific profile, historians of science, as well as for all those interested in the history of science and problems of time and space.
The book is approved by the Academic Council of the Institute of History of Natural Science and Technology. S.I. Vavilova RAS in 2006
