In his sign work “Totem and Tabu”, Sigmund Freud on the basis of the works of the most prominent anthropologists, ethnologists and psychologists of his time, through the methodology of psychoanalysis, made an attempt to trace the origins of our fears, complexes and morally ethical norms, comparing the customs of primitive tribes and socio-moral prohibitions of civilized society. In a later article, the “future of one illusion”, which supplemented this collection, he continued and developed a study of the origin of various beliefs and dogmas, and also presented his view of the place and future of religion in a socio-cultural context.
It should be noted that “totem and taboo” represent not only scientific, but also artistic value: Thomas Mann was delighted with the literary virtues of this work and attributed it to the best examples of German essays
