Totalitarianism is the central political theme of the 20th century. So all the authors think about which we are talking about in this collection (and the classic works about totalitarianism and related topics are discussed in it - about the crisis of traditional culture, the appearance of the masses and mass people, about imperialism): Hannah Arendt, Karl Bart, Yaspers , Ortega-i-Gasset, Romano Guardini. All of them, I think, proceed from the fact that totalitarianism, otherwise ideocracy is a completely new phenomenon, and attempts to compare it with the well -known historical phenomena of dictatorships, despotisms or some other forms of usurped and unlimited power will only lead us from approaching this phenomenon.
With special depth and insight, the uniqueness of totalitarianism saw and described Hannah Arendt. From her analysis, it is obvious that attempts to seek historical similarities for totalitarianism themselves, as well as subsequent of them, were always cruel rulers", etc), are one of the strategies for reconciliation with totalitarianism. And if the "classic", "tough" totalitarianism for Europe has long gone into history, for us in Russia it remains still not seriously posed by the issue.
