The book is based on the text of Gifford"s lectures given by Werner Yeger at St. Andrews University (Scotland) in 1936.
The author’s intentions did not include writing the next essay on the history of early Greek philosophy, therefore, in his book, it concerns only one aspect of the teachings of the first philosophers of Greece - their views on religion and divine. Yeger compares philosophical judgments about the divine with Theogonium and claims that both of these branches of religious thought have a common root in the Greek folk religion. He opposes the popular concept of a special theological period in the history of Greek philosophy and notes that the father of Greek theology is rightly called Plato, who was the first to use this word, and, obviously, was both its creator - both in the "state" and in "laws" philosophy. In its highest manifestation, it appears as theology
