Arthur Schopenhauer is an outstanding German philosopher-irrationalist, a representative of the philosophy of life, who has become a reaction to the rationalism of the Enlightenment. In 1819, Schopenhauer published his main work “Peace as a will and representation”, in which he sought to substantiate a new and comprehensive teaching opposite to the rationalism of the New Age. Schopenhauer was engaged in the commenting and popularization of this work until the end of his life. In his teaching, the ideas and motives of the philosophy of Plato, Kant, and German romanticism were combined. The ideas of Schopenhauer are addressed to an integral understanding of the world, one with the nature of man. The starting point of his philosophy is the concept of the world as a conscious idea of it. According to the philosopher, the driving force of all phenomena in the universe is the will to life that manifests itself in all existence. Schopenhauer"s ideas are widely distributed in Europe, its influence on the science and culture of the second half of the XIX and twentieth century is undeniable.
