David Yum is the largest thinker of the Enlightenment, a representative of the philosophy of empiricism, who stood at the origins of the Scottish school of common sense along with John Locke and George Berkeley. Contemporaries spoke about him as a cheerful man, erudite and open to a new, never revenge on their opponents, unlike other enlighteners who were angry with the slightest criticism. Among his students was economist Adam Smith, who relied on the ideas of Hume in the formation of his economic theory. The current publication included chapters from the labor of “research on human understanding”, where Hume discusses the principles of thinking and perception, as well as a number of essays, which explains how to create a fair and prosperous state with the help of good private undertakings.
