In one of his main works, the outstanding German thinker Karl Lyovit explores the origins and consequences of the historical consciousness of the West, which took the form of "philosophy of history". Going in the opposite direction - from Toynby, Spengler and Burkhardt to the new and dilapidated covenants - he traces far from the direct path of the formation of a modern concept of history and the corresponding experience of time. One of the key issues of this book concerns the meaning of "secularity" and "secularization": Lyovit is trying to clarify how and in which aspects the secular philosophy of history (another, according to Lyovite, does not exist) inherits and disputes its Christian origins. The expulsion of the gods, carried out by Christianity, and the secularization, which it gave rise to, is comprehended by the lusk in the light of the tragic experience of the first half of the 20th century: his study is aware of how the Western person was ready to accept radical nihilistic teachings
