The doctrine of the nature of the soul of Thomas Aquinas relys on two ancient “paradigms": the teachings of Plato, subsequently perceived by neoplatonism and early Christianity (especially here, Bl. Augustine should be distinguished) and the teachings of Aristotle (soul as a form and entelchy of the body), continued later by Ibn blue. In the Middle Ages, there are several attempts to combine these two "paradigms" (Albert the Great, Bonaventure), which, for various reasons, turned out to be unsuccessful. Thomas Aquinas, given the achievements of his predecessors, was able to carry out the synthesis, combining and harmoniously combining two "paradigms" into a single consistent and organic teaching.
