The publication represents a number of elected works of the Russian classic philosopher, psychologist and publicist P. E. Astafiev (1846–1893), belonging to the 19th (“gold”) century of Russian culture and art. The book presents his articles of different years, which introduce the reader into the world of those significant to this day and the problems of the philosophical spiritualistic worldview, the center of which is the “doctrine of spiritual personality”.
The main principle of Astafyev, which determines his view of the questions of “suffering and pleasure”, free will and its source, on the feeling of love or the problem of “rebirth of the word”, decadence or “public influence”, is this: “the soul is more expensive” . The book includes articles of the author, which reflected his philosophical and psychological and moral views, which have philosophical depth, psychological and cultural originality. In the essential work, “nationality and universal tasks” by P. E. Astafiev raises the question of “metaphysical understanding of the national nature of man”, which is of great importance to modernity.
