This publication first introduces the Russian reader to the composition of Montesquieu, little -known in Russia. In political vocabulary of the XVII-XIX centuries. The term “universal monarchy” denoted the desire of a power by force to affirm their superiority over neighbors and play a dominant role in European affairs. These ambitions contemporaries saw, in particular, in the foreign policy of Louis XIV. Asking the question of whether one of the peoples of Europe, like the Romans, can really achieve durable dominion over others, Montesquieu in his" thoughts on the universal monarchy in Europe, can actually achieve a whole series of original arguments.
The book also includes the chosen thoughts of the philosopher about the state and society, about law and power, about politics and religion, about himself and about man in general.
