This is the next issue of the art history conceived by the State Institute of the series "Sociology and the economy of art: scientific heritage." The specific studies of art originated in our country at the very end of the 19th century had a short but rich history. In the 1930s, they were banned for ideological reasons, which led to oblivion of a considerable number of works on the functioning of art in Russia of the first third of the 20th century. These studies resumed only in the 1950s. The publications of the beginning of the last century, which were seized from the appeal, often did not fall into the sphere of attention of those who studied the history of this direction of science. As a result of the long development of several thousand units of periodicals and collections, it was possible to find a considerable number of forgotten research materials, which allows you to expand the idea of the 20th century gained by Russian sociologists in the first decades of the 20th century. In 2011, the volume of publications was published dedicated to the "sociological evidence" on the relationship of the public with the theater, in 2013-0 the public relations with cinema, in 2014 - on the public of art museums and exhibitions. This volume contains work on the nature of the interest of Russians at the beginning of the 20th century in music, about the methods used then to study this circle of problems. It is impossible to forget that early, albeit imperfect, the stage of the formation of the sociology of music. Without a calm and multilateral development of the past, there is no future. And in any science, and in any society
