The second half of the 19th century in Russian history became the time of active construction of utopian social models, and the beginning of the 20th century was completely devoted to attempts to implement these models. In philosophical and literary discussions of that time, an important place was occupied by the image of ideal relations between women: many authors, and among them Tolstoy, Chernyshevsky, Chekhov, depicted the female community as a force capable of contributing positive changes in society. Before the era of realism, female friendship rarely honored the attention of the authors, but starting with the novels "What to do?" And "War and Peace", it gains a philosophical depth and becomes an independent line of narrative. The study of Ann Ikin Moss is devoted to the methods of depicting such an idealized friendship - the author demonstrates what place this image occupies in Russian thought and traces how it changes for several eras, ending with an analysis of the appeal to Stalinist cinema.
