The book of the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Academician Ramiz Enveovich Mekhtiev is the next example of the scientific, philosophical and cultural understanding of the unique intellectual and spiritual heritage of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker by Nizami Ganzhevi (1141–1209) In the history of Azerbaijani and foreign oriental studies and literary criticism, many valuable works devoted to the life path and analysis of the creativity of the Nizami are still written, but most of these works, as a rule, are descriptive. Academician Ramiz Mehtiev chose a different path, giving an assessment of the place and role of the Nizami in Azerbaijani culture and the formation of the national identity of the Azerbaijani people. In the head of “Nizami and Azerbaijan (to the question of the nationality and national self -awareness of the poet)” Mehtiyev on specific facts spreads all claims of Iranian authors regarding the ethnic origin of the great Azerbaijani poet.
Nizami is also considered in the context of world culture and literature, factors are understood that determine the strong positions of the Azerbaijani thinker in the galaxy of outstanding minds of mankind.
