This collection of the German philosopher Ludwig Klages (1872-1956) included the best works published in different years. As an example of German conservative thought, the author’s argument about man, personality, ethics, consciousness remain relevant at present. The article “Man and Earth”, which gave the name to the collection for the first time in 1913 in connection with the flower of free German youth in Meysen and became the first eco-manifesto.
The author’s literary thoughts appear before us in articles about Goethe, Wilhelm Jordan and Konrad, Ferdinande Meyer, in them the author shows himself as an apologet of German classics, a person living by the ideas of Nietzsche and Schopenhauer.
The collection is supplemented by a biography written by G.-K. Caltenbrunner
