Solomon Maimon went through a difficult path of searches before becoming one of the largest philosophers of his time. In his youth, he discovered the teachings of Maimonid, then studied Kabbalah, tried to join Hasidism. Before meeting with modern European philosophy, Maimon wrote a number of works in the spirit of traditional Jewish scholarship and gathered them in a collection of hedes Schlomo (“desired by Solomon”) One of the most interesting of them is the Treatise of Ma"Ase Livnat Ha -Sappir (“Criminal Sapphire”), in which Maimon tries, on the one hand, to supplement the Kabbalistic knowledge of philosophy, and on the other, to rationally comprehend Kabbalah.
