Lucius Anney Seneca is a large Roman philosopher-style, teacher of Nero, poet and statesman. His works were written in a simple and accessible language and therefore attracted the attention of both his contemporaries and the philosophers of the Renaissance, he was called the most interesting Stoic in the world. Seneca emphasized that one “virtue is enough for happiness”, so the sage should be emotionally resistant to misfortunes. His “letters to Lucilia” demonstrate Seneca’s desire for ethical perfection and “represent a kind of philosophical testament for descendants”. Destructive passions, especially anger and sadness, should be eradicated or curbed in accordance with the mind.

As a trag, it is most famous for such plays as Medea, FIEST and Fedra. The influence of Seneca on subsequent generations is huge: in the era of revival, he was a “sage who was admired and revered, even among Christian philosophers and clergymen, a master of literary style and a model of dramatic art.” These words of the English scientist Edward F. Wagling are the best described by the philosophical heritage of Seneca.

The book contains the most vivid and popular works of the philosopher, divided into 3 main blocks:
“Moral letters to Lucilia” - a work of the epistolary genre. In them, the author gives advice on how to build your life in accordance with the philosophy of Stoicism. Letters belong to the most famous and significant works of Seneca and Roman literature in general.
In the second block, the tragedies of Seneca are collected, namely Medea, Fedra, Oedipus, FIEST, Agamemnon and Octavia. Written mainly on ancient Greek plots, these tragedies influenced the development of ancient Roman literature and European drama. They inspired Shakespeare and playwrights of French classicism Cornell and Racin. The purpose of the tragedies of Seneca is to convince the need to restrain the passions that master the person: love and hatred, the desire for power and unlimited power.
Finally, the treatise “On a Happy Life” shows what principles, according to Seneca, must adhere to to achieve harmony and happiness in your life.

If you are interested in philosophy in general and the philosophy of stoicism in particular, the history of ancient Rome, ancient tragedies, this book will become an indispensable collection of significant works of the ancient Roman philosopher
