This is the first for more than half a century the complete biography of Immanuel Kant, one of the giants of the Western philosophical pantheon, which had the most powerful and comprehensive influence on modern philosophy.
It is well known that Kant spent his whole life in the isolated part of Prussia, leading the life of a typical university professor. This gave rise to the opinion that Kant was a pure thinker who did not have his own life, at least one that should be considered seriously. Manfred Kyun disperses this myth once and for all.
The life of Kant (1724–1804) covers almost the entire 18th century, and the period of its maturity coincides with some of the most significant changes in the Western world, many of which are still reflected in our lives. It was a time when a modern worldview originated, and from this biography it is clear that Kant"s philosophy was an expression of this new concept of our time and a response to it. His intellectual life reflects the most significant phenomena of that period in the field of thought, science and politics, from the literary movement “Storm and onslaught” to such distant events as the French and American revolutions.
