This book explores the historical development of the English literary language in its genre-stylistic versions from the moment of emergence in the ancient English written tradition (VIII century) until the formation and stabilization of the norms of the national literary language. The ratio of the literary language with territorial and social dialects is evaluated. The lexical-semantic and grammatical aspects of the language in terms of their functioning in the texts of various genres are analyzed.
