Epicurus is an ancient Greek philosopher and founder of his own teaching, which is called epicureism. At the age of 32, he created his own school. In Athens, the Epicureans gathered in the garden belonging to him. Hence the second name of the school - “Garden of Epicurus”, and its inhabitants were called the philosophers “from the gardens”. Epicurus preached spiritual serenity and getting rid of the fear of death. The basis of happiness was the satisfaction of life needs. Therefore, the saying included in the school: “Guest, you will feel good here. The pleasure here is the highest good. ” Only fragments have been preserved from almost three hundred works, which, as expected, wrote. Today, the texts known to us are reduced to three important letters to friends, to eighty aphorisms called “main thoughts”, and to several dozen excerpts extracted from his works. All texts are equipped with detailed comments and explanations
