In this book, the author is trying to find his place among the fundamental works that determine the face of modern semiotics, putting forward his own views on what should be considered a sign and a sign system. In addition to these two fundamental concepts, another one is put forward --- the concept of semiotic reality, opposing and complementing the ontological (natural) reality. Semiotic reality collects the basic symbolic achievements of human civilization, and everyone who uses the experience of the previous generations of scientists in his studies of nature, society or individual. This is exactly what the great Newton implied when he said that he was standing in his searches "on the shoulders of his predecessors." So any science is created, in the same way the author describes what he calls general semiotics
