"Empirism and the philosophy of consciousness" are the most important work of Wilfrid Sellars, the largest American philosopher philosopher. It was first published in the form of an essay in 1956 and led to radical changes in analytical philosophy, breaking off that connection - in the form of the doctrine of "knowledge by acquaintance", which united Bertrane Russell and Alfred Ier with John Locke and David Humay. Criticism by Sellars the myth of this work forced the analytical philosophy to move away from the fundamentalist orientation of logical empiricism and questioned the very idea of epistemology. In this edition, this key for the history of philosophy is preceded by the introduction of Richard Rorty, one of the first popularizers of the ideas of Sellars, who considers his essay in the context of modern philosophy, and completes the comments of Robert Brandom, which were originally written for students starting to study the Essenth of Sellars.
