The reader’s attention is proposed to the book of the outstanding German lawyer Rudolf Steamler (1856–1938), which became one of the most important works in the field of European theory and philosophy of law of the end of the 19th - early XX century. The book sets out a materialistic theory of history, which the author considers the only true concept of the course of the historical development of human society. The R.Shtammler R. Stamler is characterized as matter, the right --- as a form of social life, indicating an inextricable connection between these concepts, which is a reflection of the two sides of the social life of people. The purpose of social development, according to the author, is to create a society in which the personality would have a worthy position, and for this the right should be fair for everyone.

From the standpoint of the so -called legal worldview, R. Styurmler tried to criticize the Marxism, which he was identified with economic determinism. He argued that the right is primary in relation to the economy and the state, if not in temporary and causal, then in any case in logical terms. The views of the strainer were criticized in the works of V. I. Lenin, G. V. Plekhanov and other Marxists.

The book is addressed to philosophers, historians, sociologists, jurists, and all interested readers
