The fourth volume of the complete works of S. L. Frank included publications of 1911-1916 - the period of development and design of the metaphysical system of absolute realism. They reflected the interest of the thinker in the philosophical ideas of V. Dilthey, F. Schleermacher, A. Bergson and other new products of philosophical literature. Frank continued to develop the theory of artistic knowledge, ethical and religious problems, turned to controversial historical and philosophical issues (the article “The Teaching of Spinoza about the attributes”), the subject of his philosophical understanding was the experience of world war. The articles and reviews of these years were mainly published in the journal “Russian Thought” and, with rare exceptions, were not reprinted
