The book contains the translation, commentary and study of the “Collection of Instructions in Ten Sections” (“Dzikkinse”, 1252), which included 282 instructive stories in the genre of Setsuv. The Collection of Instructions is a textbook of practical ethics for youth. In various everyday examples, he shows how important kindness, modesty, respect for their neighbors are important, caution in speeches, fidelity to friends, wife and master, judgment, patience and moderation, willingness to develop their talents and the ability to recognize talent in another person. At the same time, the “collection of instructions” serves as the introduction to the classical culture of Japan of the X - XI centuries - into its philosophical, poetic, musical traditions, customs and customs of the brilliant metropolitan court of that time - for people who lived in a completely different era, under the first military rule ( shogunate) in the middle of the X III century. Partly the compiler of the collection is based on the teachings of Confucius and the Buddha, however, the legacy of Chinese and Japanese poets is no less important for him, and his main task is to teach a person to act in pressing circumstances for the benefit of himself and others. The study contains essays on the history of the study of the “collection of instructions” and the history of the Setsuv genre, a review of the discussion about the compiler of “Dzikkino”, a description of the image of classical Japanese culture, which is built in the collection of instructions, the analysis of the basic philosophical concepts around which each of its sections is built. In the reference part of the book, announced indicators of names, sources, revered creatures, terms, toponyms, reign years, as well as schemes for the construction of public administration in Japan in Japan of the X - XI centuries, a calendar, etc. are placed. The book includes illustrations from the Japanese edition of the Collection of Instructions 1721.
