The Merab Mamardashvili Foundation represents a supplemented and corrected publication of a lecture course about Descartes, read by M.K. Mamardashvili (1930-1990) in January-February 1981 at the Research Institute of General and Pedagogical Psychology (Moscow).
A course formally intended for graduate students and employees of the Institute of Psychology and the All -Russian Research Institute of Technical Aesthetics and called the author "Cartesian thoughts", became a vivid intellectual event of those days. In a crowded audience, his colleagues and friends, professionals of other areas of knowledge, graduate students and students of various specialties, as well as those whose field of activity were far from a philosophical orientation, listened.
Rene Descartes, one of the key figures in the history of Western philosophy and the founder of the science of the New Age, in the ray of Mamardashvili"s thoughts, comes to life as an existential, deeply Christian thinker, as a heroic enthusiast of the Renaissance, at his own risk rushing into the daring "adventure" One on one with the world.
In the section "from the archive", materials are presented: "Work entries for lectures on Descartes" (published for the first time) and "under the sign of Cartzer" (first published in 1996) The text of lectures and archival materials are accompanied by comments. The book is attached to the CD with an audio recording of lectures of the Cartesian Reflections course.
The design of the publication uses the works of Hendrick Averkamp, Romeine de Hoga, presumably Adrian Matham (engraving by the picture of Adrian Van de Venna)
