Torstein Veblen (1857 - 1929) - an American economist, sociologist and publicist, Doctor of Philosophy, taught at Cornell, Chicago, Stanford universities.
“The theory of idle class” - the iconic work of T. Weble. He drew the main material for the study from the reality of that time - the era of slums and palaces in Chicago.
In this book, the author first introduces the very concept of “idle class”, which is distinguished by a demonstration of its capabilities, a high position in the hierarchy. Ebblen called this a demonstrative idleness and demonstrative consumption, when a person strives not so much to economic as for social benefits, acquiring not practical, but status things
