Marcus Aurelius is a Roman emperor who went down in history as a “philosopher on the throne”. He is considered the last of five good emperors, after his death he was inherited by his unworthy son, and the once great Rome was plunged into a long series of wars between various applicants, after which the empire would not recover. “Alone with you”-a collection of aphoristic thoughts of Emperor Marcus Aurelius in twelve “Books” (small chapters), written in Greek (Koyne) in the 70s of the II century. n. e.
Marcus Aurelius realized his responsibility for the fate of a huge society entrusted to him as a ruler, which is undermined from the inside, the decomposition of morals, and from the outside - raids of barbarians. In these difficult conditions, he tries to maintain wisdom and mental balance. Most of all the emperor is occupied by the problems of duty and death. Over and over again, he reminds himself of the need not to succumb to hatred or anger, despite vile deeds and misses of others. His ideas, filled with the adoption of fate, humility and close in essence to Christianity, made this book not only one of the greatest monuments of ancient Roman literature, but also the treasure of world philosophy and culture.
