Jacob Taubes (1923–1987) is a philosopher and religious thinker who became famous in the late 40s of the last century with a dissertation about Western eschatology. A lecture on the political theology of the Apostle Paul, read shortly before the death of Taubes, is still vividly discussed. The acquaintance and long discussions of the left Jewish intellectual with the lawyer and political philosopher Karl Schmitt were important for both interlocutors and became a source of deep transformations and the latest trends in understanding the main tasks of political thought. Political theology has returned to use and seeks to take the place of others that did not justify or discredited themselves.
